Hawks Nest Kennel was founded in the summer of 2006 with the addition of our first Toller, Daphne. Hawks Nest Kennel is co-run by Carolyn and Rochelle Kurth (mother-daughter team). We are located just south of Hartford, Connecticut and we come from a long line of people who raise and show dogs, but are the first in our family tree to raise sporting dogs. Hawks Nest Kennel is named in honor of our grandfather, Charlie Hawkins. He was a strong, hardworking, and ethical man who always put his family first and lived a long, honest life. These are the morals that this kennel is founded on, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
We put a lot of time into our dogs, and do a lot more than conformation showing - we believe in having titles at BOTH ends of the name. Our dogs are socialized everywhere and have fabulous, easy to live with temperaments. Along with temperament, health is a big deal to us. We are 100% honest and upfront with anything we've produced and with what we know of behind our dogs. Feel free to ask, I would be happy to tell you anything you'd like to know. Our belief is that we cannot make the breed better unless we are honest with each other.
Rochelle Kurth founded Hawks Nest Kennel August 2006 when she was 15 and brought Daphne home. Since then, Rochelle has been competing in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, and Hunt tests. She has been part of the NSDTRC-USA since 2007, served on the nominating committee in 2008 and 2009, and has been on the region 1 hunt test committee in 2011, 2012, and 2013 - with 2013 being the national specialty hunt test. After volunteering for many committees, she is now chairing her own events - from hunt tests in CT to Supported entries in Maine.
She has handled the dogs at Hawks Nest to many of the large conformation wins, from Westminster Best of Opposite in 2009, to Best of Winners at the Canadian National and Best Brood Bitch at the US National in 2013, to Award of Merit on a home bred dogs at Westminster 2015 & 2018.
Carolyn Kurth has supported her daughter since day one, and when Rochelle bred Daphne in 2010, Carolyn kept Pinky and joined the kennel. She has started competing in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, and Hunt tests, and has titled her girl in all 4. She has taken over most of the field training for the kennel, and is now a licensed AKC judge for the Junior Hunter stake.
Carolyn has joined Rochelle in 2012 and 2013 on the region 1 hunt test committee as the secretary & treasurer each year. Following these events, she has joined her daughter and has served on the committee as secretary & treasurer for all of Rochelle's Hunt tests in Region 1. Carolyn is also the current Treasurer for the NSDTRC-USA and sits on the board of directors.
